Our people help your people with their mental health

We’re dedicated to helping organisations improve the mental wellbeing of their people, by offering practical tools and techniques that are simple to apply and easy to learn.

We help you develop happier, healthier employees

In a nutshell…we improve the mental health and wellbeing of your people through training and coaching.

We’re comfortable with uncomfortable topics. We make it easier to talk about things such as suicide and bereavement at work. We help your people develop the same comfort, so we can all be more open, more understanding, and more supportive of each other. When this happens, employees are happier, have better relationships and your business benefits.

If any of your team are struggling with their mental health, we can help with an online workshop and our 1-1 coaching support.

We help managers develop the skills and confidence they need to talk with their teams about their mental health.

We help you develop happier, healthier employees.

And that makes a happier, healthier business.

Our Vision

We’re striving to help build a world where everyone feels supported, comfortable, and confident when discussing mental health challenges at work. We aim to eliminate the fear of judgement people have when bringing up mental health related topics at work.

We aim to eradicate the awkwardness, embarrassment, and fear of saying the wrong thing around mental health.

We aim to help every organisation become a place where talking about mental health is natural and encouraged.

The benefits are enormous

Increased Retention

Employees are more likely to stay with an organisation that invests in their development and wellbeing. It demonstrates a commitment to employee growth and can help retain top talent.

Improved Performance

Regular training, support, and feedback helps employees develop the skills and confidence they need to excel in their roles.

Greater Employee Engagement

Increase employee engagement by creating an environment where employees feel supported, valued, and empowered. Where they feel comfortable discussing mental health and wellbeing at work.

Developing Leadership Skills

Managers and employees can develop their leadership and interpersonal skills, leading to a more skilled and effective inclusive workforce.

Our Mission

We make lasting improvements to people’s mental health in the workplace.

The three pillars of our mission are:

Education and awareness

We educate people about the impact of mental health challenges at work, breaking stereotypes and offer practical tools to help you understand difficult and uncomfortable topics.

We dispel myths by providing knowledge which in turn reduces stigma.

Empower leaders & support HR

We give managers and team leaders the confidence, resources and knowledge they need to support the mental health of the people in their teams, reducing pressure on HR teams, and creating a more helpful relationship between team members and their line managers.

Foster a inclusive culture

We encourage managers to develop supportive working relationships which in turn leads to supporting working environments amongst colleagues, peers and leaders.

Our Story

In 2010, Emma Tomes, the founder of The Mental Health People, life changed overnight when her eldest son’s father died by suicide.

She suddenly realised how little she knew about mental health and decided to learn more to help her family and this was the beginning of a mission to do her best to prevent other families from experiencing something similar.

Along the way, she realised that support wasn’t easy to find. Learning more about mental health, Emma decided she could share this knowledge through training and coaching to prevent suffering and further families from experiencing bereavement.

The Mental Health People was founded to be exactly what Emma needed all those years ago and to prevent other families from bereavement by suicide. Further deaths can be prevented.

We now support thousands of people who are going through difficult times and big changes, as well as getting in early to help prevent and improve poor mental health.

We equip team leaders and employees the skills and confidence to be a valuable first point of contact.

The aim is to support the person until they can access professional help, reducing the immediate risk and potentially improving long-term outcomes.
